The University of Alberta (also UAlberta) offers many scholarship opportunities for undergraduate students with outstanding academic potential. The General Undergraduate Scholarships seeks to attract top students from across the world.
UAlberta offers the General Undergraduate Scholarships for international students who are applying for undergraduate admission into available Bachelor programs at the university.
This scholarship is broadly classed into the UAlberta Scholarships Requiring a Separate Application aside the course program application, and the UAlberta Scholarships That Do Not Require a Separate Application. Eligibility
The General Undergraduate Scholarships Requiring a Separate Application comprise three different scholarship grants. The eligibility criteria for each of them is as summarized below:
[A]. University of Alberta Centenary Scholarship
Conditions:
- Awarded to students on a Study Permit with superior academic achievement entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program at the University of Alberta.
- Selection is based on academic standing, demonstrated leadership qualities based on involvement in extracurricular and community activities.
- Transfer students are not eligible for this scholarship.
[B]. International Entrance Leadership Scholarship
Conditions:
- Awarded to student(s) with superior academic achievement entering their first year of an undergraduate degree program and who are studying on a Study Permit.
- Selection based on leadership qualities as demonstrated by involvement in extracurricular and community activities and academic standing.
Conditions:
- Awarded to student(s) on Study Permit(s) from Aga Khan Academies operating under the AKA agency of the Aga Khan Development Network, with superior academic achievement, entering the first year of an undergraduate degree at the University of Alberta.
- Selection is based on International Baccalaureate Diploma academic standing, demonstrated financial need, and demonstrated leadership.
- Students may not receive any other University of Alberta entrance awards or scholarships.

Total of 14 granted each year ==> Up to 5 awards will be granted under the University of Alberta Centenary Scholarship, Up to 8 under the International Entrance Leadership Scholarship and only 1 award under the University of Alberta Global Citizenship Scholarship for IB Diploma International Students from the Aga Khan Academy
Sponsorship duration
All the grants under the General Undergraduate Scholarships Requiring a Separate Application are awarded for the first year of study, however, certain conditions must be fulfilled for the funding to cover the remaining 2nd, 3rd and 4th of study. These are as stipulated below:
- University of Alberta Centenary Scholarship: Renewal of funding for the second, third, and fourth years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta, while studying on a Study Permit. Students must have less than 24 IB, AP or A-level credits.
- International Entrance Leadership Scholarship: Awarded only for the first year of undergraduate study
- University of Alberta Global Citizenship Scholarship for IB Diploma International Students from the Aga Khan Academy: Receipt of funding for the second, third and fourth years is contingent upon achieving a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a full normal course load at the University of Alberta each year.
The awards are granted with the following financial values:
- University of Alberta Centenary Scholarship: Variable from $20,000 - Payable over four years
- International Entrance Leadership Scholarship: $5,000
- University of Alberta Global Citizenship Scholarship for IB Diploma International Students from the Aga Khan Academy: Tuition and $16,000 to a maximum of $40,000 per year for four years
International applicants are encouraged to apply for admission as early as possible. The earlier you apply, the faster your application will be processed and you will have more time to apply for scholarships, apply for housing, and get your study permit.
APPLYING FOR THE SCHOLARSHIPS REQUIRING A SEPARATE APPLICATION
For both the University of Alberta Centenary Scholarship and the International Entrance Leadership Scholarship, you must apply online through the International Major Scholarships in Bear Tracks under Undergraduate Awards. You must apply and ensure UAlberta receives all supporting information—including transcripts (and reference contact information for the International Entrance Leadership Scholarship) before the deadline date below. At the time of application, students must have applied for admission to a degree program at the University of Alberta. You will receive a CCID and password when you apply for admission and must use this to access the awards application.
