Scholarship description
The University of Oxford is happy to offer the Reach Oxford Scholarships for new students from low income countries intending to study at the university.

Every year, a number of Reach Oxford scholarships (formerly Oxford Student Scholarships) are offered to students from low income countries who, for political or financial reasons, or because suitable educational facilities do not exist, cannot study for a degree in their own countries.

Scholars successful at the Reach Oxford Scholarships will be expected to write an annual report about their academic and social activities, and achievements at the University.

Reach Oxford scholarships (formerly Oxford Student Scholarships)

Eligibility
This scheme is only suitable for candidates of the highest academic ability who have outstanding examination results. However, financial need and social commitment are also major criteria for selection.

Applicants should be intending to return to their country of ordinary residence following their studies.

Priority will be given to students who have not studied at undergraduate level before.

Eligible groups
Citizens of countries who receive official development assistance from the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

These countries include the following:

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Côte D’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Syria, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Other Countries:

Generally about 2-3 per year but to be confirmed by the provider

Sponsorship duration
Three (3) to four (4) years depending on course length.

Please NOTE that this award is given to new students and the receipt of the award in subsequent years is subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Scholarship benefits
University fees and college fees, a grant for living expenses and one return air fare per year.

Method of Application
Please note that the university cannot consider applications from candidates who have not been offered a place at Oxford. You must first make an application to the University through UCAS and be successful in gaining a place of study.

You must make an application to the University through UCAS by 15 October and be successful in gaining a place. You will then need to complete a separate scholarship application form and arrange for two references to be submitted on your behalf. The scholarship application form will be uploaded to the official website (link to it is below) in early January 2020. Please note that Oxford University cannot consider applications from candidates who have not been offered a place at the institution.

DEADLINES:
Candidates must first apply for admission to the University through UCAS by 15 October 2019. Scholarship applications open early January 2020 and scholarship application forms must be completed by 12 noon UK time on 12 February 2020

PLEASE NOTE:
Applicants should be aware that competition for the scheme is very high and the University does not have additional funding for those candidates who are not offered a scholarship.
