Scholarship Description
A program of the National Gardening Association, the Subaru Healthy Sprouts Award recognizes and supports youth gardening programs focused on teaching about the environment, nutrition, and hunger issues in the United States.

The National Gardening Association (NGA) runs this program to encourage the growth of health-focused youth gardens in the country.

These awards support school and youth garden programs that aim to teach children about nutrition and the issue of hunger in the United States.

Eligibility
To be eligible, a school or organization must intend to garden in the year of the award with at least fifteen (15) children between the ages of 3 and 18.

Selection criteria:
The selection of winners is based on the demonstrated relationship between the garden program and education related to environmental, nutrition, and hunger issues in the U.S.

Eligible groups
Citizens or permanent residents of the United States (including international citizens who are legal immigrants to the USA)

Participating Institutions
All accredited schools or organizations in the United States

Fields of study
The winning programs will provide youth with the skills necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle compatible with environmental stewardship and an understanding of how their actions can positively impact the well-being of their community.

Number of awards
At least 50 awards will be offered

Sponsorship duration
This will be a onetime award to deserving schools and/or organizations

Scholarship benefits
An expected 50 awards will be given to schools or organizations who will receive a $400 gift certificates to purchase the Gardening With Kids catalog; NGA’s Eat a Rainbow Kit; a set of hand tools and gloves; a curriculum package from NGA; and a plantcam to document the growth and changes of its garden.

Method of Application
Applicants will be selected according to the demonstrated relationship between the garden program and nutrition and hunger issues in the United States.

DEADLINE:
This is hoped to be an annual award. Deadline dates to indicate interest in running for this award will be around October - November every year.
