Scholarship Description
The Higher Education Master’s in Africa Programme (HEMA) is a NORAD-sponsored collaborative programme involving the University of the Western Cape (UWC), the University of Oslo (UiO), and the Centre for Higher Education Transformation (CHET).
Through various disciplinary perspectives, the programme will provide students with a solid basis for analysing and critically assessing change processes at all relevant levels in higher education.
This is a Call for Applications from eligible international students.
Eligibility
The student target group is those currently involved in or aspiring to become involved in higher education, be it as administrators, researchers, policy-makers, curriculum managers, or consultants.
Entrance requirements:
- A four-year degree (upper second class and above) or its equivalent.
- Students from non-English speaking countries will be required to provide evidence (certificates) of proficiency in English e.g. TOEFL with at least 550 points (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based), IELTS test with at least 6.0 points, or other qualifications that can be evaluated by the admission committee of the programme.
- Demonstrated writing ability through the submission of research reports or publications is essential.
- Practical experience in Higher Education research, administration and/or policy work, would be an added advantage

This Master’s programme is the first to include a focus on the complex relationship between higher education and development. The programme is linked to a research network on expertise in higher education in Africa, giving successful applicants access to the latest knowledge in the field.
