Scholarship Description
Norad’s Programme for Master Studies (NOMA) provides financial support for developing and running master’s degree programmes in developing countries through equal partnerships between local and Norwegian higher education institutions.

To address issues related to gender, the Interim Board for the NUFU and NOMA Programme decided in 2010 to fund gender incentive activities in the NOMA Programme. This funding is a supplement to projects supported by NOMA.

This Call for Applications is addressed to NOMA projects which receive support for the years 2012-2013/14 and the proposed activities must commence in 2012.

ADDENDUM {September 2013}:
The NOMA Programme Board has allocated all available funds for the NOMA Gender Incentives Activities.

The programme is therefore not open to applications for new projects.


Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants must fulfill the following
  • Students must be female candidate.
  • Must hold a bachelor degree
Projects which previously have received support of gender incentive activities from the NOMA Programme are also eligible for support under this call for applications.

Eligible groups
Female citizens of ALL developing countries

Participating Institutions
All accredited local higher education institutions in participating developing countries,
All Norwegian higher education institutions, AND
Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Higher Education (SIU).

Fields of study
There are the three main Gender Incentive Categories for the NOMA Programme:
  1. Recruitment of female NOMA students
  2. Retention of female NOMA students
  3. Working conditions for female NOMA students

Sponsorship duration
The duration of the proposed activities may vary but cannot go beyond the project period of the respective applying NOMA project.

Scholarship benefits
13 million NOK has been earmarked for the NOMA Gender Incentives Scheme.

Under each main category {see `Fields of study` above} there are various activities which can be eligible for support under the scheme.

Please note that construction of new building/infrastructure or purchase of same or other expensive goods (like cars/buses in order to provide secure transportation for female students) are not eligible for support under this scheme. Rental of same may however be eligible for support.

Method of Application
Projects could apply for funding through two calls for application. In the first call 20 NOMA projects were allocated funding for NOMA Gender Incentive Activities. In the second call for application 12 NOMA projects were given support, of which five projects were supported also through the first call.

Each NOMA project can apply for more than one category/activity within the same application form.

DEADLINES:
All applications must be submitted on or before the 31st of August 2011.
