Denmark: PhD Scholarship at The Wind Energy Division of the National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy

“Aeroelastic Design” research programme

Course(s) offered: Engineering
Course Level: Graduate (PhD)
Provider: DTU
Country to Study in: Denmark

Scholarship Description
The Wind Energy Division at the National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Risø DTU is seeking a highly motivated PhD student in the “Aeroelastic Design” research programme.

The present industry standard RANS models do not accurately predict the flow passing through wind farms and therefore fails to predict the power output of the wind farms.

Eligibility
Candidates should have a master’s degree in engineering, fluid mechanics or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master’s degree.

Experience with wind energy or flow modeling, as well as good communication skills are considered advantageous for obtaining the position.

Eligible groups
Qualified citizens of ANy country

Participating Institutions
The Wind Energy Division at the National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark (DTU) Risø

Fields of study
Development of Efficient Turbulence Models for CFD Wake Simulations

The project will focus on development and evaluation of turbulence models aimed at turbine wake modelling that goes beyond simple eddy-viscosity concept.

One possibility would be to evaluate the potential of Reynolds Stress modelling for wake simulation. Another direction can be the development of multi-scale RANS techniques.

The project will include comparison with experiments and time resolved LES type simulations.
