Scholarship Description
A Full Doctoral Scholarship is available within the Department of Psychology at the University of Essex. The department conducts internationally leading research in a range of areas. Its particular strengths lie in Social and Health Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive and Sensory Neuroscience.

The Department has a strong research reputation and was ranked in the top 20 out of more than 100 departments in the UK in the 2008 national assessment. Over half of its research was rated as 4* (world leading) or 3* (internationally excellent).

Eligibility
The minimum entry requirement for a research degree is a 2.1 Honours degree (or equivalent) in Psychology or a related discipline. It is not essential to have a Masters degree, although in some cases this may be an advantage.

To be eligible to apply for this full scholarship candidates must be classified for fees purposes as a Home (UK) student and be a UK National or have Settled Status in the UK, and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the past three years.

Sponsorship duration
For the whole three-year duration of the programme of supervised research leading to a PhD.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship will cover tuition fees for three years, plus a maintenance stipend of £13,590 per annum.

PLEASE NOTE:
The scholarship will commence in October, 2011 for a period of 36 months.

The university welcomes applications from enthusiastic, motivated, well-qualified candidates who have, or expect to obtain, a high 2(1) or first class honours degree in Psychology before October 2011.
