Scholarship Description
The University of Winnipeg in Canada is pleased to offer The Sir William Stephenson Scholarship for eligible students who wish to pursue their course of studies at the university.

The Sir William Stephenson Scholarship has been established to encourage students at The University of Winnipeg, who combine outstanding academic achievement and exceptional leadership qualities, to pursue their studies at the University and to develop their potential to make a valuable contribution to Canada.

Applications for the Sir William Stephenson Scholarship are also used to select a recipient for the Dr. and Mrs. Roderick Hunter Scholarship awarded to a student with high academic standing, outstanding leadership qualities, and significant extracurricular involvements.

Eligibility
The Sir William Stephenson Scholarship is targeted at undergraduate students who are either citizens or permanent residents of Canada. Prospective students must be ambitious and have exceptional academic and leadership qualities.

In particular, eligible applicants must:
  • be Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents.
  • have completed at least 30 credit hours, including at least 24 credit hours at The University of Winnipeg.
  • have a minimum Grade Point Average of 3.75 on all courses completed to date.
  • continue as registered students in a University of Winnipeg undergraduate degree program in the academic year of the award (i.e. 2011-12).
Selection criteria:
Eligible prospective applicant must show and demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities and the potential to make a valuable contribution to Canada.

Number of award
Every year, two (2) Sir William Stephenson Scholarships and one (1) Dr. and Mrs. Roderick Hunter Scholarship will be offered

This is a ONETIME financial aid

Scholarship benefits
The value of the scholarship is as follows:
  • Sir William Stephenson Scholarship: 2 x $6,500
  • Dr. and Mrs. Roderick Hunter Scholarship: 1 x $6,500

Sir William Stephenson (1896-1989) was born in the Point Douglas area of Winnipeg and attended Argyle School. Throughout his remarkable life, he excelled in every activity in which he was involved and always exemplified the highest qualities of dedication and patriotism.

The University of Winnipeg (UWinnipeg) is a public university in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada that offers undergraduate faculties of art, business and economics, education, science and kinesiology and applied health as well as graduate programs. UWinnipeg's founding colleges were Manitoba College and Wesley College, which merged to form United College in 1938. The University of Winnipeg was established in 1967 when United College received its charter.
