Scholarship Description
Every year the Google RISE Team is inspired by the work you do to impact students through creative and engaging STEM initiatives.

Google RISE (Roots in Science and Engineering) Awards are designed to promote and support Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) and Computer Science (CS) education initiatives. Google grants awards to organizations working with K-12 (primary & secondary schools) and university students to provide enrichment programs in these fields.

Google is excited to bring together another amazing group of organizations for the 2016 Google RISE Awards.

Eligibility
RISE Awards are limited to not-for-profit organizations with charitable registration status or a fiscal sponsor from one of the countries listed on the official website. Previous RISE awardees may apply if adding a new dimension to former programs or launching a new CS program.

Selection Criteria:
Organizations are eligible to apply if they have a(n):
  • Emphasis on CS programs: Google funds CS organizations that currently run extracurricular computer science programs or STEM organizations looking to start a computer science outreach program.
  • Focus on girls, underrepresented minorities, and low-income students: Programs must serve girls, underrepresented minorities, or underserved students up to the age of 18. Awards are not open to programs for students already enrolled in university or above.
  • Regional reach with potential to have a broader impact: Programs should have regional reach (city, county or state) with the potential to scale through programmatic expansion or have a broader reach by sharing information nationally and internationally.
  • Attainability: Organizations should have a track record that the program can be executed as described.
  • Measurability: Google is a data-driven company and it looks to partner with organizations that demonstrate a record of quantifying impact or can propose a plan for measuring impact in the future.

About 250 countries, spread throughout the continents worldwide, are eligible for RISE awards. See the Guidelines page for complete list of eligible countries.

All categories of STEM (i.e. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and CS (i.e. Computer Science)

Scholarship benefits
RISE Award recipients receive:
  • Funding: Grants range from $10,000 to $25,000 USD (was $15,000 -$50,000 USD in the 2015 edition).
  • Access to a global network of CS partners: This includes participation in the Google+ online community and opportunities to connect with other RISE award winners.
  • Learning resources from Google experts and volunteers: Learn about technical tools & organizational development over the course of 12 months.
Method of Application
Be sure to read through the guidelines on the Google RISE Award pages before applying. You may apply in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, or Spanish.

Applicants are required to fill out a general application form and submit a detailed proposal including organization and program information as well as a detailed program budget. DEADLINES:
The 2016 Google RISE Awards is now accepting applications from December 28, 2015 through February 19, 2016.
