Scholarship Description
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM)’s mandate is to oversee graduate training and networks of specialization in the countries and universities where it works.
RUFORUM strongly believes in fostering innovative and responsive research; high performing and proactive graduates; a dynamic platform for university networking; advocacy for agricultural higher education; and university transformation for relevance.
The RUFORUM funded project titled “Effect of Uranium Contamination in Selected Tanzanian Agricultural Soils and its Transfer in Food Chains” seek to sponsor two candidates to study M.Sc. degree at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in 2011/2012 academic year.
Eligibility
The below-listed are essential:
- The project prefers candidates who have admission to study M.Sc. degree at SUA with GPA of not less than 3.5 in their B.Sc. degrees.
- Interested candidates should submit their application letters with photocopies of academic transcripts.

Fields of study
Masters degree (M.Sc) studies in Agriculture.
The first candidate will register and study his/her coursework in the Department of Food Science and Technology for one year and do research on uranium contamination in food chains in Bahi District. The second candidate will register for coursework in the Department of Soil Science and do research on spatial distribution of uranium in selected farms in Bahi District and determine its uptake by plants.

The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM), established by ten Vice Chancellors in 2004, is a consortium of 66 African universities operating within 26 countries spanning the African continent. RUFORUM is coordinated by a Secretariat hosted by Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. The organisation evolved from its predecessor, the Forum on Agricultural Resource Husbandry (FORUM) program of the Rockefeller Foundation. RUFORUM is registered as an International Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and has mandate to oversee graduate training and networks of specialization in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
