Scholarship Description
The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) is a highly selective scholarship for students who have excellent study results and are strongly motivated.

The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) offers talented prospective students the unique opportunity to pursue a degree in a selection of Master’s programmes at VU University.

VU University has committed to providing approximately 1 million euro towards attracting highly motivated, excellent students.

Eligibility
The VUFP is a merit scholarship programme for strongly motivated students with excellent study results. The applicant must meet the eligibility criteria in order to be considered for this scholarship.

Eligible candidates:
  • You hold a non- EU/ EEA passport and you are not eligible for the lower tuition fee. 
  • You do not have the Dutch nationality. 
  • You can prove your academic excellence (GPA equivalent to a Dutch 8). 
  • You are conditionally or unconditionally admitted to the first year of a full-time English-taught Master’s programme at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam starting per September 2022. Please note that:
    • students starting in February cannot apply,
    • joint programmes where VU Amsterdam does not administer the admission process are excluded from VUFP.
  • The degree with which you are seeking admission has not been obtained in the Netherlands.
  • You do not need to complete a preparatory programme before the start of your Master.

Sponsorship duration
The VUFP scholarship can be granted for a one or two-year Master’s programme. The scholarship will only be extended for the second year of a two-year Master’s programme if 100% of the ECTS of the first year have been achieved.

Students already enrolled in a two-year Master’s programme who have not been awarded the VUFP scholarship in 2021/2022 are not eligible to apply for the VUFP scholarship for 2022/2023.

Scholarship benefits
The VUFP scholarship covers your tuition fee only i.e. a tuition fee waiver. It does not provide any additional allowance towards study or living costs, like rent, food, insurances. Be aware that you must be able to finance all living expenses by yourself.

Method of Application
The VUFP scholarship application involves two steps: registering for a Masters program and submitting your VUFP application. Students must have registered for a Master’s programme in Studielink by 15 December 2021; and must have submitted a VUFP application together with supporting documents in their VU dashboard before 1 February 2022.

DEADLINES:
You can start your application for a Masters from the 1st of October, but complete it by 15 December 2021 (23:59 CET). While submission for your VUFP application starts 1 December, with a deadline for completing it by 1 February every year (23:59 CET). All applications received by 1 February 2022 will be reviewed by the faculty at which the applicant will be participating in a Master’s programme.

PLEASE NOTE:
It is important to meet all of the eligibility criteria enumerated above so as to be eligible for a VUFP scholarship.

After receiving the applications, faculties then nominate applicants to the central VUFP scholarship committee, which then awards scholarships to the most talented students. The award is based on the motivation letter, the quality of previous education and the student's academic performance therein. A scholarship offer will then be made to successful candidates.

All students will receive an e-mail informing them of the Central VUPF committee's decision concerning their application. VUFP candidates will receive an e-mail containing a nomination letter, the conditions of the VUFP scholarship and a statement of agreement.
