Scholarship Description
The University of Cambridge, UK is ranked the number 1 university in the world; according to the 2011/2012 QS World Ranking, followed by Harvard University, USA. The University of Cambridge is one of the oldest universities in the world and one of the largest in the UK.
The Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Cambridge Overseas Trust are both established as charities by the University of Cambridge UK in the 1980s to provide financial support for international students on degree courses at Cambridge. The aim of the Trusts is to enable candidates of outstanding academic merit, who would not otherwise be able to take up places at Cambridge, to pursue courses of study or research.
Awards are offered to selected students at PhD, Masters and undergraduate level in all subjects, and at all 31 Colleges of the University of Cambridge. Awards, which include both full-cost and part-cost scholarships, are made only at the beginning of a course of study, and continue for the duration of the course.
Some scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit alone. Most scholarship schemes also take account of financial need. To be considered for an award by the Trusts you must be admitted by the University as a student.
General Eligibility / Application
If you plan to start a degree course at the University of Cambridge, and are from a country outside the European Union, use the tool from the link below (see 'More Scholarship Information') on country specific awards to see a list of scholarships for which you are eligible. Application and Admission
Applicants must be admitted to the University of Cambridge through the normal academic procedures. The Trusts have no role in the admission of applicants to study at the University, and are not able to influence the chances of an applicant being offered a place.
The University sets minimum standards – check the requirements for undergraduates and for postgraduates.
Check the information on application deadlines for undergraduates and postgraduates.
Equality
The Trusts are committed to equality of opportunity, and no applicant will be treated less favourably than another on the grounds of gender, marital or parental status, race, ethnic or national origin, colour, disability, sexual orientation, religion or age. The primary consideration in the selection of Scholars will be applicants’ ability to meet the selection criteria for each scholarship.
Disabled students who receive scholarships from the Trusts may be eligible for supplementary funding to assist with additional costs, e.g. necessary adjustments in the study environment.
