Scholarship Description
The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) at the University of Oxford have established scholarships to allow graduates to pursue studies of benefit to the Muslim world.
These Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) Scholarships are full awards covering all expenses for the duration of the students' stay at the institution.
Eligibility
You should be applying to start a new graduate course at Oxford.
You must be either:
- ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom and from a Muslim community (with preference given to those from a financially disadvantaged household), or
- a national of, and ordinarily resident in, one of the countries in Asia and Africa listed below
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.
You should be intending to undertake study in a field derived from or of relevance to the Islamic tradition, which is of relevance and/or benefit to the Muslim world.
Please ensure that you meet the selection criteria for your course (see the Courses page for more information).
This scholarship is not open to candidates applying for postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma courses, part-time courses or non-matriculated courses. This scholarship is also not open to applications from candidates who hold deferred offers to start in 2015-16.
Eligible groups
Muslim citizens of ANY country RESIDENT in the UK; and
Citizens of the following Asian and African countries:
- AFRICA: Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Gabon, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Togo, Tunisia and Uganda
- ASIA: Afghanistan, Albania, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei, Comoros, Djibouti, Guyana, Indonesia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Suriname, Syrian Arab Republic, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Yemen Arab Republic.

Up to five (5) awards will be available
Sponsorship duration
Awards are made for the full duration of your fee liability for the agreed course. This is usually the same length as your course.
If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based upon satisfactory academic progress.
Scholarship benefits
The scholarship will cover 100% of University and college fees and a grant for living costs (of at least £14,057).
Method of Application
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must select the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholarships in the Funding section of the University's graduate application form and submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline for your course.
You must also complete an Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholarships Supporting Statement (see Related documents on the official website) and upload it, together with your graduate application form, by the deadline, in order for your application to be complete.
If you do not apply in full by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship, even if you have selected the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholarships on the graduate application form.

Please note, if you are accepted onto a different course from the one you originally applied for, you should contact us as soon as you are notified of the change in order to ensure that your application for a scholarship is maintained on your new course.
Decisions are expected to be made around July 2016.
The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is a Recognized Independent Centre of the University of Oxford. It was established in 1985 to encourage the scholarly study of Islam and the Islamic world.
The Centre provides a meeting point for the Western and Islamic worlds of learning. At Oxford, it contributes to the multi-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary study of the Islamic world.
