Scholarship Description
Maastricht University (UM) offers the Maastricht University Holland High Potential scholarship for excellent students from outside the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA) who wish to do a master’s or a professional education programme at Maastricht University.

UM aims to further strengthen its position as a leading European university offering high-quality education with an international orientation. To this end, the university implements a pro-active recruitment policy for international students, in particular for the Master’s programmes.

The Holland High Potential Scholarship consists of a High Potential Scholarship combined with a Holland Scholarship. It is aimed at international students from outside the EU/EEA who wish to follow a full degree programme in the Netherlands.

Eligibility
All candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • You hold nationality in a country outside the EU/EEA, Switzerland or Surinam and meet the requirements for obtaining an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
  • You do not hold a double nationality from an EU/EEA country.
  • You have applied for admission to a full-time Master’s programme at Maastricht University for the 2020-2021 academic year. Please see the scholarship website (link below) for a full list of the Master’s programmes participating in this scholarship programme.
  • You meet the specific admission requirements of the UM Master’s programme to which you have applied.
  • You have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education programme in the Netherlands. Students who have completed exchange programmes in the Netherlands are welcome to apply.
  • You are not older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2020.
  • You have obtained excellent results during your prior education programmes, as demonstrated by your latest grade transcript or certified by academic excellence. If several applicants are equally qualified, UM will give preference to applicants whose academic transcript or certified letter of academic excellence demonstrate that they are among the top 5% of the 2020-2021 scholarship programme applicants.
Selection criteria:
For the scholarship assessment, the Scholarship Committee takes all elements of the application into account, including: the level of previous study programmes, academic excellence, motivation, status of the home institution, the connection with the prior study programme, future career plans and references.

Sponsorship duration
Scholarship is awarded for the duration of the Master's programme, with a maximum of 13 months for a 1-year masters programme; and in case of a 2-year Master's programme, the Scholarship Committee will award the scholarship for a maximum of 25 months.

Scholarship benefits

Method of Application
To apply for the scholarship, there are 3 steps to follow.

First, you must register for an eligible Master’s Programme at Maastricht University. Please note: you can apply for the Master’s programme at UM and the scholarship simultaneously, however, you must be conditionally approved for admission to your Master’s programme in order to be awarded a scholarship.

Then, fill in the application form (log in with your UM account), upload the required documents in .doc, .docx, or PDF format, and submit your application. Please note that you will only be able to submit your application once, so please ensure that all of your documents and referee contact details are up-to-date.

Finally, you will have to contact the referee you provided in your application form and ask them to submit their reference letter per email to hhp.scholarship@maastrichtuniversity.nl by midnight on 1 February 2020 (Central European Time).

DEADLINES:
In applying for your masters, bear in mind that for almost all the faculties, deadlines will fall between December to March (traditionally 1st December, 1st February or 1st March). Some faculties have multiple deadlines (i.e. Law; Health, Medicine and Life Sciences; Humanities and Sciences).

The deadline for applying is up to and including 1 February 2020.
