Scholarship Description
Harry Frederick Oppenheimer was a noted South African businessman, philanthropist and opponent of apartheid. In 1993 he endowed the Oppenheimer Fund at the University of Oxford.
The Harry Oppenheimer Fund promotes links between the University of Oxford and South African universities by providing the Oppenheimer Scholarships to students from any country who have studied at South African universities and who wish to pursue graduate study at Oxford. In addition, the Fund also supports academic exchanges between Oxford and South Africa.
The Scholarships are available for applicants to full or part-time master’s and DPhil courses, who have previously studied at a South African university.
Eligibility
You should be applying to start a new graduate course at Oxford. Please ensure that you meet the selection criteria for your course (see the 'Course Guide' on the official website for more information).
You must have previously studied at a South African university.
This scholarship is not open to candidates applying for Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) or Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) courses, part-time courses, non-matriculated courses or to students with deferred entry.
Selection criteria:
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit.

Number of awards
At least two partial scholarships are available for applicants each year
Sponsorship duration
Awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course.
If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.
Scholarship benefits
For students on full-time courses, the scholarship provides a grant for living costs of at least £14,057. Students on part-time courses will receive a study support grant to help cover their non-fee costs
Method of Application
Apply for this scholarship at the same time as you apply to Oxford for your chosen course of study by selecting 'Oppenheimer Fund Scholarships' in the Funding Section of the University's Graduate Application Form.
There is no separate application process for this scholarship: to be considered, submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline (see below).
If you do not apply in full by the deadline, you will not be considered for the Scholarship, even if you have selected Oppenheimer Fund Scholarships on the Graduate Application form.

DEADLINES:
You must submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline - 8 or 22 January 2016, depending on your course (8 January 2016 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations and Computer Science; 22 January 2016 for all other subjects).
PLEASE NOTE:
All eligible candidates who apply by the deadline will be considered; there is no separate application process for this scholarship.
If you do not apply as detailed above by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship.
Applications with an outstanding admissions decision after the deadline date, or applications which are re-evaluated against the later March deadline date, are not eligible for scholarship consideration.
Selection is expected to take place in May 2016. Successful candidates will be notified via email.
