Scholarship Description
As a center of excellence in Finance, the Vienna Graduate School of Finance (VGSF) is inviting excellent students from across the world to apply for the PhD Program in Finance in its campus.

The VGSF PhD program is starting in fall (September) next year. The School is FREE to attend, with financial support for your living expenses, if you are admitted.

Excellent students from across the world, who meet the eligibility criteria, are warmly invited to apply for the PhD Programs at VGSF.

Eligibility
The following requirements have to be met in order to be admitted to the PhD Program in Finance:
  • Successful completion of a relevant Master's program or a relevant equivalent degree program at a recognized Austrian or foreign post-secondary institution of education
  • Proficiency in financial economics
  • Proficiency in mathematics and/or statistics
  • Adequate English proficiency
  • Achievement potential
The program is open for students from all countries with all academic specializations, provided they hold a Master degree or equivalent and have sufficient level of formal training.

Students who are going to graduate soon (by end of June) may apply, too.

The VGSF PhD program in Finance consists of two parts: rigorous coursework and work on the PhD thesis. The students attend courses covering all major topics in finance and analytical methods required for research.

In the weekly research seminar students have the opportunity to meet internationally renowned scholars presenting their state-of-the art research.

Number of awards
Up to six scholarships will be offered to the best applicants.

Scholarship benefits
There are no fees to be paid if you are selected. It is a full tuition (plus living costs) scholarship.

The financial support is about 2000 Euros gross per month. After deducting insurance, tax, etc. it is about 1450 Euros (14 salaries/year). This should be enough to cover the living costs in Vienna, such that you can concentrate on your studies.

Method of Application
Complete applications which meet all formal admission requirements will be evaluated by the admission committee. Based on this evaluation the best applicants will be selected and will be invited for an interview. Interviews will take place in February. Applicants will be given sufficient advance notice by e-mail about date, time and location of the interview.

All applications are done online. All information provided in the online application must be correct and complete. In case you need to make any important subsequent corrections please contact office(@)vgsf(.)ac(.)at.

Do not submit more than one application. If VGSF receives two or more applications from the same person, it will not consider any of them. Applicants who will finish their Master studies after the deadline but before June 2017 are welcome to apply as well.

DEADLINE:
The application period for the academic year 2018/2019 will open on November 1, 2017 (2:00 pm CET) and will end on January 31, 2018 (2:00 pm CET). Only applications submitted within the application period can be accepted.

Applicants to the VGSF program should be aware that there are two rounds of evaluations. The VGSF faculty first evaluates all complete applications received by December 08, 2017 (02:00pm CET) and makes a first round of admission offers. Next, the VGSF faculty evaluates all complete applications received by January 31, 2018 (02:00pm CET)  and makes a second and final round of admission offers.
