Scholarship Description
The University of Oulu does not charge tuition fees from international degree students starting their studies at the university in the autumn semester 2016. In addition to these Tuition Free Scholarships, some individual Master’s programmes have their own scholarship schemes.

Thus, the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine has established the Protein Science International Master’s Scholarship Programme to provide scholarships to academically talented international students who undertake the international master’s in Protein Science and Biotechnology at the University of Oulu.

The scholarship is available only for non-EU/EEA applicants.

Protein Science International Master’s Scholarship Programme

Eligibility
Applicants are eligible to apply for a Protein Science Scholarship Programme 2016-17, if they are:

1). Non-EU/EEA citizens who do not have a permanent residence permit in Finland.
Applicants NOT eligible are:
  1. non-EU/EEA citizens who have a permanent residence permit in Finland, 
  2. EU/EEA citizens or comparable persons, 
  3. University of Oulu students who have been accepted to study BEFORE the academic year 2016–17.
2). Eligible to apply for the International master’s degree programme in Protein Science and Biotechnology at the University of Oulu for academic year 2016–17.
Prerequisites for applicants:
Bachelor of Science degree with good grades in either:
  1. Biochemistry, or a closely related topic (to be judged by the content of the degree)
  2. Chemistry, or a closely related topic, and relevant biochemistry experience
The degree has to consist of minimum three (3) years of full-time study. An equivalent higher education degree which enables the applicant to apply for higher university degree (master) studies in his/her home country is also acceptable in place of the BSc.

Please note that conditional admission is possible, if the applicant receives the degree certificate from the previous degree after the application deadline.

Number of awards
There are up to 15 places available on the Protein Science and Biotechnology international Master’s programme and up to 15 Protein Science International Master’s scholarships are available.

Sponsorship duration
It is for a maximum of two years.

In order to retain the Protein Science International Master’s Scholarship for a second year of study a student must have completed at least 55 ECTS by the end of their first academic year.

Scholarship benefits
The scholarship is meant to cover some living expenses and is for 4000 euros per year.

Method of Application
There is no separate application for the Protein Science International Master’s Scholarship. All applicants for University of Oulu Master’s degree programmes need to complete the Student Application Form available here.

Those applicants who are applying for the Protein Science International Master’s Scholarship have to additionally complete the questions found at the end of the Student Application Form.

DEADLINES:
The next available application period is 15 December 2015 – 29 January 2016 and is for studies starting in September 2016. Please note that there is only one application period per year.
