Scholarship Description
The Waverley Fund, established in 2001, assists academically excellent students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have shown the potential to make a significant contribution in their future careers.

ORISHA (African Humanities Research Fund) is administered by the Scholarships Committee of the African Studies Centre and provides funding for postgraduate study in Africa Studies.

Eligibility
Eligible candidates must ordinarily be residents in sub-Saharan Africa. Applicants must intend to return to their home country at the end of their studies.

Candidates should be applying to start an MSc in African Studies at the University of Oxford.

Selection criteria:
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of outstanding academic merit.

Deferred students are NOT eligible.

Sponsorship duration
The awards are made for the full duration of a student’s fee liability for the agreed course.

If your scholarship is offered for a course lasting more than one year, the continuation of your scholarship each year is subject to an annual renewal process based on satisfactory academic progress.

Scholarship benefits
100% of university and college fees, and a grant for living expenses (exact amount to be confirmed) which should be sufficient to cover your costs of accommodation, food, utility bills and general living costs (clothes, books, insurance, networking/socialising etc) in Oxford.

Method of Application
You do not need to actively apply for this scholarship. All eligible candidates who apply for the MSc in African Studies by the application deadline below will be considered.

There is no additional application process for this scholarship; all eligible candidates who apply to Oxford by the deadline will be considered.

If you do not apply as detailed above by the deadline, you will not be considered for this scholarship.

DEADLINES:
In order to be considered for this scholarship, you must submit your application for graduate study by 24 January 2014.

PLEASE NOTE:
This scholarship is not open to students with deferred entry.

Applications with an outstanding admissions decision after the deadline date, or applications which are re-evaluated for the later March deadline, are NOT eligible for scholarship consideration.

Applicants who are ‘re-routed’ (accepted onto a different programme of study to the one they originally applied for e.g. transferred from an MSc to a MPhil or from one course to another) should contact the Scholarship Providers as soon as they are notified of the change in order to ensure that their application for a scholarship is maintained on their new programme of study. However, please note that such a change of course may mean that you are no longer eligible for this scholarship.

Decisions are expected to be made in early May 2014. Successful candidates will be notified via email and will receive an award letter. This webpage will be updated as soon as successful candidates have been notified.

The African Studies Centre was launched in October 2004, and attracts extremely high quality graduates. The Centre is a unit of the School of Interdisciplinary Area Studies (SIAS), a department in the Social Sciences Division.
