Reports monitored from one of the national dailies indicate that the Rivers State Scholarship Board has commenced payments to undergraduate scholarship awardees in Nigerian universities.
The daily reports that a release by the Scholarship Board’s press secretary Gloria Olayemi, and the Chairman of the Board, Dr Elechi Amadi; disclosed this while addressing the Press in his office.
The press statement is reported to add that the exercise which started last week would continue until all undergraduate awardees are paid.
It further reports that the Chairman of the Board, Dr Elechi Amadi explained that payment is being executed in groups of three local government areas for each day to ensure orderliness.
The chairman is said to have appealed to the students to be of good conduct while receiving their cheques and be focused on their studies.
Dr Elechi further disclosed that payments to Ph.D and disabled students would be made as soon as more funds are released to the Board.
He is said to have appealed to the students to be calm as government is doing everything to ensure that all scholarship beneficiaries are paid.
In a similar development, the state Scholarship Board has started remitting payments to students overseas for the 2012/2013 academic session.
