Course Level: Undergraduate (bachelor’s)
Provider: Wells Mountain Foundation
Country to Study in: Any developing country

Scholarship Description
The Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF), a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA, funds the Empowerment Through Education Scholarship Program for individuals in developing nations or other situations of extreme poverty.

WMF hopes that by providing the opportunity to further one’s education, the scholarship participants will not only be able to improve their own future, but also that of their own communities.

The foundation believes in the power and importance of community service and, as a result, all scholarship participants are required to volunteer for a minimum of one month a year.

ATTENTION SCHOLARSHIP APPLICANTS!
It has come to the attention of WMF that someone is trying to defraud those who apply for the WMF scholarships. No matter what you may be told there are NO FEES required to submit a scholarship application to the Wells Mountain Foundation! You only need to submit a complete application through the official website (link to it is below), by the annual deadline each year of April 1. If someone contacts you saying a fee is required, please forward that email to info@wellsmountainfoundation.org. WMF would very much like to prosecute this fraud.

Wells Mountain Foundation (WMF) Scholarships

Eligible groups
Citizens of ANY developing country

Participating Institutions
Your choice of ANY institution in your home country or in ANY other developing country

Fields of study
All fields of undergraduate study are eligible; although WMF tends to favor professions such as health care, social work, education, social justice, as well as, professions that help the economy and progress of the country such as computers, engineering, agriculture and business.

Sponsorship duration
Scholarships are generally granted for the full period of study, however, recipients must maintain good grades and provide copies of all semester reports and grades as they are received. The scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance.

Scholarship benefits
Scholarships range from $300 USD to $3000 USD. While the maximum scholarship is $3000 USD, WMF rarely award this amount. The average scholarship amount is $1400. Award covers Tuition and fees, Books and materials, and Room rent and meal.

WMF does not fund the following:
  • Education at a college, polytechnic or university in the United States, UK, Australia, or Europe (except Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ, USA - see FAQ question #8 on official website for reasons and explanations). Education in these countries, while excellent, is too expensive for WMF scholarship amounts to be effective.
  • Masters or Doctorate degrees – WMF prefer to use its limited resources to assist young people in getting their initial tertiary degree. A medical degree, however, is acceptable.
  • Laptop computers, conferences or trips
  • Debts or past due tuition bills
Method of Application
Before applying, WMF strongly encourages you to read the Empowerment Through Education information Flyer and also the Empowerment Through Education Application Frequently Asked Questions document. These two documents will assist you in determining your eligibility and guide you in the application process.

There are two ways to apply: Online and by mailing in a completed application packet to WMF office.

1). APPLYING ONLINE: You will need to create an account (username and password), fill out information and upload documents. WMF strongly suggest that you apply online as it will provide you with the opportunity to save your work and return multiple times. You will also guarantee that your application, once submitted online will be received and reviewed.

2). MAIL-IN: You will need to print the 2017 application form and it is your responsibility to clearly complete it and attach all required supporting documents before sending it to WMF. Applications must be received by April 1, 2017 in WMF office. Applications that arrive after April 1, 2016 will not be reviewed. This means that you must allow at least three weeks to mail your application to WMF from outside the USA. Only send one completed application. Incomplete or additional mailings with supporting documents will be discarded. WMF highly encourage applicants to apply online to ensure the delivery of their completed application.

It is important to visit the official website (link to it is below) for complete information; and to EITHER access the online application portal, OR to download/print the application form.

  2. @talk2infiniti, to secure a scholarship, you NEED to identify a scholarship you are qualified for, and then apply to it.
    To do that:
    1. Search through the scholarships on this site;
    2. Identify the ones you're qualified for, and
    3. Apply to them directly using the information provided under 'Method of Application' for each of the scholarships.
NOTE: you may also search the world wide web using 'Google search' for countless numbers of scholarships. Hope this helps, and goodluck!
