Scholarship Description
The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship scheme is open to undergraduate students with exceptional musical, dramatic or sporting talent.

The VCS scheme is open to students applying to any undergraduate course at the University (although, as the scheme is designed to attract students with exceptional abilities outside their normal field of study, a Music student would not be eligible for a music scholarship nor a Drama student for a drama scholarship).

For entry in 2020/2021 academic year, up to 20 Vice-Chancellor's scholarship scheme will be available, valued at £3,000 worth scholarships per annum.

Eligibility
The scholarship supports undergraduate students with an exceptional musical, dramatic or sporting talent, who are:
  • holding an academic offer and
  • intending to start studying at the University of Bristol in the autumn of 2020.
The scheme is designed to attract students with exceptional abilities outside their normal field of study, therefore a Music student would not be eligible for a music scholarship, etc.

Up to twenty awards are normally available each year

Sponsorship duration
The scholarship is awarded for three years of undergraduate study only. The scholarships will be awarded in the first instance for a period of one year, once all the Further Conditions of the Award are met.

For renewal, students should satisfactorily progress through to the next year of study on their chosen course and for each category:
  • Music: Successfully audition for the University's Symphony or Chamber orchestras, or University Singers or Chamber Choir (keyboard players would participate in chamber ensemble playing, approved by the Music Department);
  • Drama: Contribute substantially to InterAct Programme run by th eSchool of Theatre Studies;
  • Sport: Become a member of the Performance Squad, part of the University Performance programme.
This activity will take place upon return to the University at the beginning of the new academic year, in order to renew the award.

If a student is deemed not to have contributed satisfactorily, the scholarship will be withdrawn and cannot be reinstated at any point in the future regardless of future contribution.

Scholarship benefits
Scholarships in Music and Drama are valued at £3,000; and scholarships in Sport will range between £1,500-£3,000 per year

Method of Application
The student shall apply through UCAS for admission to any undergraduate course at the University of Bristol by 15 January in the year of admission.

The student must submit a separate Scholarship application directly to the Admissions Department by the 15 January in the year of admission. The scholarship application form can be downloaded from the official website (link to it is below).

The student must firmly accept an academic offer of a place on any undergraduate course at the University of Bristol by 1 September in the year of entry. If the offer is conditional, the student will need to fulfill the terms of his/her offer and have their place confirmed by 1 September in the year of entry.

The deadline date for application to UCAS for admission (into any undergraduate course at the University of Bristol), and for Scholarship application (made directly to the University of Bristol) is 15th January of the year of admission.

Applications for 2020 Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship are now open and will close at 10am on Monday 2nd March 2020.

PLEASE NOTE:
This is an entrance scholarship for new students applying to study at The University of Bristol. Continuing students are not eligible to apply.
