Scholarship Description
Rotary Clubs in Japan through the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation offer scholarships to overseas students to undertake undergraduate, masters and doctoral studies at Japanese university or graduate school.

The Rotary Yoneyama Scholarship for Applicants Residing Abroad (or "Overseas Application Scholarship" for short) is carried out as a special program to support overseas students or international students scheduled to enroll in a Japanese University or Graduate School.

Applicants have to find out and apply a Japanese university or graduate school by themselves before they apply for this scholarship. And they are requested to submit the copy of the application for admission for the university / graduated school.

Eligibility
The program’s eligibility requirements are as follows:
  • Have already chosen the university or graduate school s/he will apply for
  • Be in the process of applying for admission
  • Be able to submit his/her letter of acceptance (an admission approval or a pre-arrival admission approval) under the schedule below.
    • For April 2016 enrollment: Submit the letter of acceptance by the end of January 2016.
    • For fall 2016 enrollment: Submit the letter of acceptance by the end of June 2016.
Only the applicants who will enroll in the universities / graduate schools located in the officially-listed areas are eligible. Those in other areas are not eligible. See official website for the list.

In addition, the condition of requirement for Japanese ability differs depending on the area where applicants’ targeted universities / graduate schools are located. So, please check the list carefully. If your targeted school is located in non-listed area, you can’t apply this scholarship this year.

Participating Institutions
All Japanese Universities or Graduate Schools.

Only the applicants who will enroll the universities / graduate schools located in the listed areas as found on the official website are eligible. Those in other areas are not eligible.

Not specified (but in the past Rotary Yoneyama awards, fifteen (15) applicants were selected yearly)

Awards will lats for the whole duration of study

Scholarship benefits
The value of the scholarships is as follows:
  • Undergraduates - 100,000 yen per month
  • Master’s students - 140,000 yen per month
  • Doctoral students - 140,000 yen per month
*Research students are not eligible.

Please note:
Only for the first year of the scholarship, a supplemental of 400,000 yen is provided upon arrival in Japan.

For April enrollment: Scholarship payment begins in April 2016
For fall enrollment: Scholarship payment begins in October (or September) 2016

DEADLINES:
The deadline for applications is 16 October 2015 1:00P.M. Japan time for both April and October Enrolment.

PLEASE NOTE:
Application documents must arrive by the deadline date.

Notification of selection results is made by email at the beginning of February 2016.
*If the applicant is rejected for admission to the issuing university, s/he will lose eligibility for the scholarship at that point.

The Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation awards scholarships to overseas students who aspire to study or conduct research in Japanese universities or graduate schools. Its scholarship fund is supported by the contributions of Rotarians throughout Japan. The Foundation is Japan’s largest private scholarship organization, both in terms of program scale and number of scholarships awarded.
