Scholarship Description
Computer Science for High School (CS4HS) is an annual funding program to improve the computer science (CS) educational ecosystem by providing funding for the continuation of CS teacher professional development worldwide.
Driven by local needs, CS4HS funding brings educators together for a professional development opportunity with the goals of invigorating them about computer science and computational thinking, while providing tools and networking opportunities to help educators in the CS classroom.
The focal aim is its goal captured as "Developing Computer Science educators globally for today’s 21st century students!"
Eligibility
Any research institution, university, educational nonprofits such as professional development organizations, school districts or local offices of education dedicated to providing exemplary computer science professional development for teachers in North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, China, Australia or New Zealand is welcome to apply.
Google highly encourages former applicants and CS4HS awardees to apply again. If you were previously funded for a CS4HS award, make sure to specify if you’re adding a new dimension to a former projects or scaling your efforts further.
Please note:
University students are encouraged to be involved in the writing of the application and the delivery of the professional development where appropriate. However, the application must be submitted by full time staff of the university.
Selection criteria:
What constitutes a successful CS4HS application?
Funding is awarded to applicants who demonstrate a sound pedagogical approach to CS and the establishment of or support for an ongoing community of practice around CS professional development.
What level of detail is needed for the proposed CS4HS budget?
Google recommends that you include as much detail as possible when proposing a budget for the CS4HS funds. Applications receive more positive reviewer ratings if they include a detailed budget with a clear rationale for all expenditures.
What is the ideal number of participants receiving PD opportunities through a CS4HS award?
Google encourages PD practitioners to use the funding to maximize the number of participants they can invite without sacrificing the quality of the PD.
How are applications reviewed?
A panel of reviewers evaluate each application submitted, and a group consensus determines funding recipients. Funding decisions for CS4HS awards are objective and based on several regional funding criteria.

Fields of study
The funding focuses on three major growth areas for teacher PD in CS:
1). Facilitating the development and delivery of content that increases teachers' knowledge of computer science and computational thinking;
2). Allowing providers to customize learning content to meet local needs and the sharing of best practices for engaging all students; and
3). Addressing the building of communities of practice that continue to support teacher learning throughout the school year.

The funding is delivered to the CS4HS awardee as an unrestricted award. The funding should be used in ways that best address local teacher needs.
Funding levels are determined by the number of participants, global region and other associated costs. Funding various from region to region. Please refer to the funding criteria page for your regional funding caps.
Method of Application
You must be affiliated with a research institution, university and/or an educational nonprofit such as a professional development organization, school district or a local office of education.
To apply for a CS4HS award, you will need to complete the 2017 Application Form with information about you and the project. Please read the FAQs and make sure you meet the eligibility requirements before applying.

Deadlines for all regions is between on Sunday March 19th, 2017 at 11:59 PM GMT.

CS4HS awards are structured as unrestricted gifts to universities. Google has a strict policy against supporting overhead. CS4HS awards cover direct costs only. Indirect costs, administrative costs, and overhead are not considered eligible budget items.
Computer Science for High School (CS4HS) provides funding to computer science education experts for the planning and development of CS teacher professional development. CS4HS funding enables computer science education experts to provide exemplary CS professional development for teachers.
