Scholarship Description
The BG Tanzania International Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme for Geoscience and Engineering is aimed at Tanzanian graduates who want to complete their postgraduate education in the UK and access future employment opportunities in the energy and related sectors.

The scheme offers Tanzanian graduates the opportunity to pursue postgraduate education at universities in the UK, with a focus on specific geoscience and engineering courses that are particularly relevant for Tanzania’s emerging oil and gas sectors.

Covering a range of 23 taught courses at four UK universities, the scheme is funded by BG Tanzania and administered by the British Council Tanzania.

Eligibility
Applicants should:
  • be a Tanzanian national
  • be able to meet the relevant course entry requirements set by the participating universities (please consult the university and websites for details)
  • have completed a relevant graduate degree in geoscience, engineering or a related subject area
  • be able to demonstrate an adequate standard of English language comprehension.

Number of awards
This Scheme offers 10 scholarships each year to Tanzanian graduates

Sponsorship duration
Scholarship awards are granted for a maximum period of 12 months, for courses starting in September 2016

Scholarship benefits
The awards are comprehensive, covering academic tuition fees and related administrative expenses, registration fees, field work costs, living expenses, a return airfare, support with visa applications, and pastoral care while in the UK.

The emerging natural gas sector will offer attractive employment opportunities for Tanzanian citizens with the relevant technical skills.

Upon successful completion of one of the courses included in the scheme, beneficiaries have the potential to qualify for participation in the BG Group’s International Graduate Programme.

Beneficiaries will also be well equipped to access employment opportunities with other energy companies and companies involved in the energy sector’s supply chain

Method of Application
STEP 1: If you are interested in applying, you first have to submit an application for a place to study to one of the universities and for one of the courses included in the Scheme.

STEP 2: If and when you have received an offer for a place from one of those universities, you can apply by downloading the application form. The link to download this form can be found on the official website (link to it is below).

STEP 3: Submit your completed application pack to British Council Tanzania. Conditional offers are acceptable, if the only outstanding conditions are funding and proving an appropriate level of English language comprehension.

Applications for the September intake of Academic Year 2016-2017 is open until 15 March 2016

PLEASE NOTE:
By the announced deadline date, completed applications should have reached the British Council office in Dar es Salaam. Applicants will be shortlisted and invited for interviews, and the final selection of scholars will announced by April 2016.

It has a major Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) business and is the largest supplier of LNG to the United States.

On 8 April 2015, Royal Dutch Shell announced that it had reached an agreement to acquire BG Group, subject to regulatory and shareholder agreement. The sale was completed on 15 February 2016.
