Scholarship Description
Brownstone, an appellate litigation law firm, is offering an annual scholarship to all law and pre-law students and hopes, through this program, to empower the youth and entrepreneurs to go for their dreams.

This award, the Brownstone Scholarship Program, is merit based, requires an essay submission, and the winning applicant will receive $1,000 dollars towards their costs of education.

If you are interested in winning a scholarship while getting your voice heard by writing an essay, then the Brownstone Scholarship Program is definitely for you! Brownstone invites you to be part of building the future. It encourages you to make a difference. Your journey may begin with an idea, but that idea can grow and become unique.

Eligibility
The scholarship is open to all current full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students in an ABA accredited law school or accredited graduate program.

This scholarship will only be awarded to one incoming undergraduate or currently enrolled graduate Student. Applicants must also hold the following to qualify:
  • Hold a 3.0 or higher overall GPA
  • Must be a legal resident of the U.S.
All application materials must be emailed no later than the deadline date. Materials received later will be rejected, resulting in disqualification.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
All scholarships are based on academic performance and for academic purposes. Scholarships are awarded only to students at an accredited academic university, college, or graduate program, on the basis of academic merit and taking into account the overall performance of the essay portion of the Program, along with potential and goals.

Brownstone also looks to personal characteristics, as evidenced by community participation, vocational interests and outside work or other evidence of self-help. Applicants have no right to appeal a decision regarding the winners of the Program.

Essay Topic
This Brownstone Scholarship is awarded to the undergraduate or graduate student who presents a 1000 word essay on the following topic:

"Whether a 99 year state prison sentence-(without parole)-for a convicted, juvenile African American male is a de facto life-sentence that violates Eighth Amendment or, the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment?"

Number of Awards
At least one student will be awarded per year

Essay benefits
The $1000.00 scholarship will be awarded to the winning student (graduate or undergraduate). The Brownstone Scholarship is to be used exclusively for college tuition and related expense. A check for $1000 will be made payable to the award recipient’s school to cover these expenses and he or she is expected to submit receipts in accordance with IRS regulations

Method of Application
In order to apply for the scholarship, the candidate must fill up the form given at the bottom of the 2016 Brownstone Scholarship page. For applying the Scholarship Program, the candidates must write a 1000 word essay. Remember that your thoughts power society and are the engine of prosperity and growth.
