How to Overcome a Job Rejection

College days are generally the best times for any graduate, where one has lots of learning as well as frolic activities that would remain lifelong as memories. However, it is also a gear changing moment, where a changeover takes place between casual college classes to professional workstation. With the completion of college classes, a student starts searching for a dream job that matches with the qualifications.

A job hunt involves lots of steps, it starts with finding a suitable position with all the matching expectations, sending the resume, getting shortlisted for the initial round of interviews and further. But if in case you are rejected, then it could be depressing at times. Dealing with a job rejection is never so easy, but one has to make sure that it should not daunt your morale.

There are always chances of rejection while you are searching for a job, as many other potential candidates are also applying for the same position. It could be possible that others have more relevant experience and have a good interview session. A job rejection is faced by everyone, whether it is a fresher or an experienced person with good work exposure. So, the candidate should always be ready with the positive or negative consequences.

Here are some tips to manage the job rejection stress.

1). Always be Ready with a Plan B

It is always suggested to have a plan B. While shortlisting the jobs where you are planning to apply, list out a number of companies where you can apply. Never get stuck with a single plan only, always go for multiple options as this will ease the stress level too.

2). Search Relevant Job

Generally, after few job rejections, people start accepting jobs which are not compatible with qualifications. Now if you are a fresher and you are searching for your very first job, then search for jobs that should endorse your qualifications and capabilities. At the end, all the hard efforts which you are putting into the job is going to be added in your resume, so be specific and precise about the job.

3). Never Take it Personally

Recruiters are looking for potential candidates that will match up with the organizational requirements and KRA’s of the particular position. The decision of not selecting you is completely based upon few specific criteria’s that does not have to do anything with how your interview was. If you are not selected, it does not mean that you are not an outstanding candidate with the desired skills.

4). Look for Future Opportunities and Strengths

If you are not selected for one job, it doesn’t mean you should underestimate your capabilities. Work upon your strengths rather than blaming yourself for the rejection. Jot down the important points which were lacking in the previous interview, it will help you in the future and avoid repetition of the same mistake. Try to focus on strengths and identify more opportunities about which you are passionate.

5). Improve Your Network

Improving your social network online as well as offline can land you into a dream job. Improve your professional social media accounts, brief about the nature of the job handled by you, projects undertaken, and recommendations, quote sample works. Nowadays, recruiters are shortlisting candidates via social media platforms too. So have a strong social presence, it also helps in recommending jobs person to person.

6). Always ask for Feedback

Once you receive a rejection by the recruiter, after that, always ask for the feedback on a very polite note. This will help in letting know the points or areas where you missed and will help with future interviews.

Getting a “NO” from the dream job happens with everyone, but instead of getting depressed upon it, try to work upon your SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threats) and have a deep analysis of it. This will lead towards a better understanding of the whole recruitment process and job.
