Scholarship Description
Western Illinois University (WIU) offers several International Student Scholarships to foreign non-USA students wishing to study at WIU. The Western Illinois University International Commitment Scholarship is only available to qualified international students.
WIU offers the International Commitment Scholarship to eligible undergraduate and graduate students who are citizens of a country outside the United States. Qualifying students must be newly admitted for full time enrollment into a degree program at WIU.
Non-sponsored international students enrolling at WIU for the first time, who are eligible are encouraged to apply for the Western Illinois University International Commitment Scholarship. Scholarship is applied only to WIU tuition. No cash refund is available for this scholarship.
Eligibility
To be eligible, applicants need to satisfy the following:
- Must be a newly admitted undergraduate or graduate, non-sponsored international student enrolling to WIU for the first time
- Minimum 3.5 GPA (confirmed by International Admissions Office; 3.5 GPA must be maintained for renewal)
- Admission into a degree program at WIU
- Full-time enrollment (minimum 12 semester hours for undergraduate or 9 semester hours for graduate) per semester
- Undergraduate students are required to live in University Housing, subject to availability, waived in the Quad Cities. University Housing options include: Bayliss-Henninger, Tanner, Grote, Corbin-Olson, Lincoln-Washington, Thompson.
- Students who are sponsored or have a graduate assistantship are not eligible for this scholarship.

Scholarship benefits
The total value of the scholarship is $3,000 -- $1,500 will be awarded for fall semester and $1,500 will be awarded for spring semester. Scholarship is only applied to WIU tuition. No cash refund is available for this scholarship.
Method of Application
Western Illinois University’s course admission requirements vary depending on your previous education. You must complete the application process and be accepted into a degree program at WIU. No scholarship application is required. International Commitment Scholarship is automatically awarded to students who qualify upon acceptance into Western Illinois University.

The International Application for Admission and all supporting documents must be received by the following dates: Fall (August) semester – May 1; AND Spring (January) semester – October 1. The upcoming deadline is 15 May 2017
