Scholarship Description
In 2011, Orange launched its Orange African Social Venture Prize award whose aim was to encourage innovative start-up projects which help to accelerate development on the African continent. This initiative has now been extended to the Middle East as well.

Now in its 8th call, the Orange Social Venture Prize Africa & Middle East contest aims to reward the best innovative and socially responsible business projects in Africa and the Middle East.

This 8th edition unfolds in two phases: first the candidates participate to a national competition, then an international jury gives a grand prize to the best national winners. At both the national and international step, the viewers of this site can vote to add a name to the jury shortlist. The projects providing content services are automatically reviewed for a chance to receive the Orange Content special prize. Don't wait anymore, go for it, apply!

Orange Social Venture Prize Africa & Middle East

Eligibility
Entrepreneurs over the age of 21 and start-ups operating for less than three years can qualify for the Prize.

There are no nationality requirements.

The projects must be implemented in one of the 17 countries in which Orange operates in Africa and the Middle-East, and listed in the Contest Rules. The eligible countries are listed below.

Selection criteria:
The jury will consider the social and environmental impact of the projects, their degree of innovation, the possibility of expanding the product or service to several countries and the financial viability and feasibility of the projects submitted.

Eligible groups
Citizens of the following African or Middle Eastern countries:
Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Senegal, Botswana, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar, Niger, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Jordan and Burkina Faso

The Orange Social Venture Prize aims to promote social innovation by supporting development through information and communication technologies (ICT)

Sponsorship duration
In addition to funding of up to 25,000 euros, Orange will provide support to the three winners of the Grand Prize for six months from business and telecoms professionals

Scholarship benefits
The prizes shall be distributed in the following manner:
  • 1st Grand Prize: €25,000
  • 2nd Grand Prize: €15,000
  • 3rd Grand Prize: €10,000
  • Orange Content special prize: €5,000
Orange experts provide the winners with customised digital mentoring and advice. These international awards complete the various prizes delivered locally to national winners.

Method of Application
To enter the contest, you need to fill in the registration form. You need to provide a picture (logo, photo, etc.), the business plan in a PDF file (which will not be published) and a small public description of the project. Each participant must submit its project only once by selecting the country of deployment of the project in the online registration form.

Beware: in order to validate your registration, you have to submit a presentation of your project.

In your file you must answer to the elements below:
  • Synthetically present the project (1000 to 2000 characters)
  • Analyze the market
  • Explain why the project answers to the identified need
  • Introduce the management team
  • Present the financial forecasts
  • Assess the societal and/or environmental impact
An application with an incomplete file will not be taken into account. Some fields of the application form are compulsory; you will not be able to register if one of them is not filled.

Orange UK was a mobile network operator and former internet service provider in the UK that was launched in 1993. It was purchased by France Télécom (now Orange S.A.) in 2000, which then adopted the Orange brand for all its other mobile communications activities. Orange UK merged with Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile UK to form a joint venture, EE in 2010. EE continued to operate the Orange brand until February 2015, when new connections and upgrades on Orange tariffs were withdrawn.
