Scholarship Description
Go Global Africa aims to give the entrepreneurs from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa who have developed products that are ready to go to market and raised investment the tools they need to grow their business globally, build links with the UK’s thriving digital sector and pave the way for future economic partnerships.
This is a fantastic opportunity for start-ups using technology to solve local issues, to participate in an exciting and intensive programme in the UK to learn how to build their business to develop global solutions.
The opportunity is now within your grasp as the UK’s International Tech Hub Network launches its search for Kenyan, Nigerian and South African Startups to join the country’s Go Global 2020 programme.
Eligibility
Applications are open to tech startups from Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa who meet ALL of the following criteria:
- Work in one of the following four verticals: AgriTech, FinTech, HealthTech or Clean Energy
- Post-MVP stage, fully operating in market
- Can demonstrate a clear business model with evidence of customer traction
- Looking to raise their first round of funding
- Can demonstrate clear social impact potential
- Can demonstrate commitment to strengthen the local ecosystem by passing on learnings to other startups
- Ambition to expand internationally in the future

15 founders from each country will be selected to join the delegation to the UK

Scholarship benefits
Travel costs, accommodations and most meals.
Successful applicants will be sponsored to join a delegation of ambitious African start-ups to the UK for an immersive programme in March 2020.
The programme will help companies to improve their business skills and capability, build links with the UK’s thriving tech sector and work with UK expertise to take their business to the next level.
Method of Application
The International Tech Hub Network welcomes applications from founders based in Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa who are using technology to tackle local issues. The 15 most promising startups, as determined by in-country pitch events, will come to the UK.

PLEASE NOTE:
The UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) launched an International Tech Hub Network in 2019, in partnership with the British High Commission in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. The hubs are one pillar of a broader Digital Access Programme which aims to catalyse digital inclusion across Africa.
Africa is home to a rapidly growing tech sector. Nigeria’s tech sector generates more than 10% of the country’s economic output and the sector is projected to create three million jobs and generate $88 billion by for the local economy by 2021. Kenya’s technology sector is growing rapidly and is more than 11% of the country’s economic output and is considered one of the most vibrant, advanced and successful in Africa. South Africa attracted a record amount of investment in tech of any African country – in 2017, raising almost $168m and research by the World Economic Forum ranks it as the best place to do business in Africa.
